This will be the last newsletter of the 2022-2023 school year. And, even though there's only a few weeks of school remaining, we do have quite a few special events planned and promoted in this May newsletter. Hope you have a little time to review the attachment and looking forward to seeing you on campus soon!

FJA is hosting a Summer Day Camp and we'd love for all new and returning FJA students aged 4 thru 4th grade to attend! The camp will run for three weeks in June, Mondays through Thursdays, and half-day or full-day options are available. Campers can attend as many or as few days as your summer plans allow. Students released their butterflies. Every class had some--beautiful painted lady butterflies! Signs of Spring!

Congratulations to our FJA middle school students who presented proposals at this year's Flagstaff Youth Climate Summit! All three student proposals--A Zen Garden, Composting at Bonito Campus, and Drip Irrigation at Cedar Campus--will be funded by the City of Flagstaff. Bravo for student activism!

Thanks to the City of Flagstaff's Water Conservation Team for leading learning at our Cedar Campus last week in honor or World Water Day. The seed-bomb-making activity was a hit with students and we thank the team for sharing their passion and dedication with our school!

Congrats to our Girls Basketball teams on terrific seasons and to Varsity for taking the Championship Trophy for the 2nd year in a row! Special thanks to our amazing coaches Shelly Cundy, Tom Drumm, and Travis Crawford. And an extra special thanks to Linda Ochi for assisting both coaches and students throughout the entire season!

Special FJA recognition to our former business manager Lori Langan, who passed recently. It’s difficult to put into words how important Lori was to FJA. She was our party-planner, in-house mom, financial expert, and friend. Lori always had a smile and kind word for everyone. The student-created rock garden around our Cedar Campus Peace Pole was dedicated to Lori last spring when she first encountered her health challenges. Peace and love to Lori and the entire Langan family.
Lori's Celebration of Life will take place at The Rock of Ages Lutheran Church in Sedona on Saturday, March 4th at 1:00 p.m. Lori’s obituary can be found here:

We hope that our FJA students and families, as well as the larger community, are safe and warm during this winter weather. If you hadn't heard yet, below are some local resources for food and shelter during the storms.

Hope you're having a safe snow day, FJA! Thanks to Kachina Peaks Avalanche Center for coming out recently and educating our 6th graders on backcountry safety. Slopes, angles, beacons, and more, our students loved this experience--especially locating and "rescuing" that which Mr. Cola had buried in the snow!

Celebrating the 100th Day of School is a longstanding elementary-school tradition. Our Cedar Campus students honored the milestone by participating in 100-Legos building challenges, 100-item trail mixes, and more. Some even celebrated the 101th Day of School with face paint a la 101 Dalmatians! Thanks to our teaching staff for their creativity, to our families for contributing supplies, and to our students for playing along and dressing up!

Ever since Joshua Grove visited, our students can't get their hands on kendamas quick enough! You can now use code "FlagDama" for 20% off on the Sweets Kendamas website at https://sweetskendamas.com. To use it, just copy and paste this discount code into the "Gift Card or Discount Code" field and click "Apply" prior to completing the checkout process on an order.
