I have lived in Flagstaff since 1995. I started college at Northern Arizona University in the music program, but graduated in 2001 with a degree in biology. In 2003, I earned my teaching certificate. I am now in my 3rd year of teaching at FJA. I teach 1st - 6th grade art, 4th - 6th grade music, band, and band and drama at the middle school. I am a "jazz saxophonist, private pilot, and gardener".
My curriculum includes ceramics, quilting, felting, printing, paper-making, collage, and much more. Our Art program has won local art contests including the 2004 Recycled Art Show, Elks Lodge Drug Awareness posters, and the Coconino Humane Associations calendar contest. FJA art has been displayed at the Coconino Center for the Arts, and they won Best In Show for Fine Arts at the Coconino County Fair in 2005.
In my first 3 years at FJA, I pioneered a ceramics program at the elementary school, and a concert band and drama department at the middle school.
The drama department's first full-length performance was Charles Dickens "A Christmas Carol." Currently they are working on "The Wizard of Oz".
The band program has been a huge success. Students have the option to start an instrument in 5th grade at the elementary school. The middle school is proud to have band students performing in the Northwest Regional Honor Band Music Festival. The middle school band performs two concerts per semester. I teach private lessons to woodwind and bass players. Also, FJA is proud of their middle school Rock Band. In 2004 they won second place and in 2005 they won 1st place at the Heritage Square "Teen Band Jam" Battle of the Bands.
