Jake McQuaid, your friendly, neighborhood Language Arts, Geography, History and W.O.L.F., teacher. Oh yes, also the Cross-Country coach for our wonderful, tremendous, spectacular, and all around awesome school. Flagstaff Junior Academy. A little insight into my past, present, and future? It’s okay; you need not be shy in asking.
The hats I have worn: military brat, world traveler, camp counselor, outdoor educator, Vermonter, college student, barista, all around funny guy, teacher…the list goes on. As you may be able to tell, I have worn many hats, as we all have, and all of my experiences have brought me here, to help facilitate your student’s education.
I have my B.A. in Outdoor Education and my M.ED in Secondary Education/Certification. As mentioned before, I teach a plethora of classes and I am a strong supporter of inter-disciplinary education models. FJA and the staff allow me to combine multiple topics to create a relevant educational experience that strives to encourage:
- Critical thinking
- Self-Awareness
- Personal responsibility
My classes revolve around thematic units which are supported by novels, primary sources, discussions, and alternative assessments. At anytime, parents/guardians are welcome to come on in and check it out and participate in the wonderful world of Middle School education.
