Emily Lewis, MS Spanish

I consider my ability and knowledge of Spanish as a second language one of the greatest achievements of my life.  Since the beginning of my experience with the language, in high school Spanish 1a, becoming proficient has been a personal goal and even more, an interest.  There are many advantages to learning Spanish as a second language, but the greatest benefits are the joy and satisfaction it can bring.

I chose to become a teacher because I am a student at heart.  I have always enjoyed the continuous challenge of starting a new school year, studying, learning, producing and conquering.  After graduating from Flagstaff High School, I completed my bachelor’s degree at ASU in Multilingual/Multicultural Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish.  I got married the summer of 2007 and then taught 2nd and 3rd grade at Flagstaff Community Christian School.  The past two years I taught Spanish 101 and 102 at NAU while completing my master’s degree in teaching Spanish.

When I’m not in school, I enjoy being outdoors and spending time with family and friends.  I was born and raised in beautiful Flagstaff, Arizona.  I am a Christian and attend Harvest Christian Fellowship.  My hobbies are playing disc golf, ice hockey and going to the movies.  I have a love of travel sparked by my early opportunities to study abroad in Mexico and Costa Rica.  I’m excited to now be a part of Flagstaff Junior Academy as the 5th-8th Spanish teacher.
